What is a Community Health Center?

This health center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.

History

Hamdard began as a proactive response by co-founders, Dr. Mohammad Hamid and the late Dr. Farzana Hamid, in 1992 addressing the critical mental health needs of the South Asian and Middle Eastern communities. It continues to this day to meet the needs of the diverse local communities through its comprehensive service model by providing culturally-sensitive and linguistically-appropriate services to families.

Hamdard is a healthcare and supportive service provider rooted in Chicagoland’s diverse communities. We believe patients receive the best care when their providers understand their cultural background and experiences. That’s why our staff speaks up to 10 languages spoken by patients and has a deep appreciation for their diverse backgrounds. Community-focused care is provided in a warm setting, allowing patients to feel comfortable and empowered to improve their health. Our supportive programs offer an empathetic approach to community members facing a variety of challenges, from a domestic violence crisis to obstacles related to aging.

Our board gives guidance and direction outlined by our mission.
